As we are all aware, our school music programs have been decimated. Many schools do not have any music program at all. The Carmel Classic Guitar Society school program introduces the guitar, music and the history of American music to 4th and 5th grade students. Over a two-year period we present the guitar to virtually all students in Monterey County. This program is made possible by a grant from the Harden Foundation.

The guitar was the first European instrument brought to California and has been and is a rich contributor to the various cultures that call Monterey County home. The presentations are designed also to introduce the children to the various terms in music -- concepts such as melody, harmony, rhythm, soprano, bass, etc., as well as how the guitar is played. We are presently designing a pamphlet to accompany the presentations.
